In any conversation about Afro-Cuban jazz today, the name Chucho Valdés quickly comes up. The pianist, composer and arranger, who turns 82 the day after his concert at the Grand Auditorium, has been a leading protagonist of this style for more than 60 years. Known throughout the world for his unmistakable sound, his influence on subsequent generations cannot be overrated. In his hands, the term «hybrid form» loses any negative connotation, so natural and consequent is his combination of musical elements.
