Gustavo Gimeno and the Luxembourg Philharmonic deliver a stunning interpretation of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, hailed as one of the greatest 20th-century ballets. The album also features Pavane pour une infante défunte and Une barque sur l’océan, two great works by the French composer. Stravinsky praised Daphnis et Chloé as «one of the most beautiful products of French music,” with its seductive harmonies and passionate intensity. Originally written for Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes, this vast «choreographic symphony» showcases Ravel’s orchestral mastery. This is Gimeno’s third PENTATONE release with the orchestra, presenting a vibrant and evocative interpretation of Ravel's rich sound world.
