Yulia Federova was born in Penza in Russia in 1978. From 1993 to 1997, she studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, while also performing at a variety of festivals with the New Names ensemble. In 1996, she won first prize in the Nikolay Rubinstein International Chamber Music Competition; in 1999, she won fourth prize in the Caltanissetta International Chamber Music Competition in Italy. From 1998 to 2002, she was the leader (concertmaster) of the Moscow Conservatory Symphony Orchestra under Gennady Rozhdestvensky. In 2003, she gave master classes at the Centre Culturel et Artistique Moulin dāAndĆ© (France). From 2002 to 2005, she studied further at the Hochschule fĆ¼r Musik Saar under Prof. Ulrike Dierick and in 2005 completed an internship at the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie SaarbrĆ¼cken Kaiserslautern as first violin tutti. She joined the Luxembourg Philharmonic in 2006. In 2008, she won a prize for solo violin performance at the Hochschule fĆ¼r Musik Saar.
